Forum: moviesandfilms Subject: UTOPIA - Laurel and Hardy - Copyright Strike

Hello, iam a german student and have a question. Excuse my poor english.

Ive uploaded "Utopia"/"Atoll K" on YouTube (http://archive.org/details/utopia) to share this movie with some friends because we want to see it in the university.

Yesterday Ive got an email from YouTube: Copyright-Strike from Gaumont - a french company. Ive sent them a message but they said that they own this and have all copyrights. Is that true?

What can I do? I thought this movie is in the public domain, isn't it? Shall I press the button on my YouTube-Account to "claim" it?

Best regards, please help me :-)
